3 weeks
I've had my braces on for just over 3 weeks now. I passed the first checkup at the Orthodontists office (an oral health check) with flying colours last Monday.
They do not hurt at all, which has been great. The only time they were tender was in that first week after them being put on, but only when I bit my teeth together, or tried to eat something on my back teeth.
Eating has been different - I have to break up everything I eat into much smaller pieces which means it takes me longer to eat. I figure this is a good thing because at least my stomach will have time to fill up and realise that it doesn't need anymore food, instead of me gutsing down my dinner (as I usually do) as I am normally running about trying to do 10 things at once!
My clear ties along the top of my ceramics have stained a bit the other night when I cooked up a Japanese curry. For some stupid reason (it mayve been slightly to do with my migraine the day before) I thought Japanese curry wouldn't stain like Indian Curry. I was wrong! They aren't as bad as they could be though, but I have these on for another month.... if they get too bad I may have to ring up to get them changed quicker!
Compared with pre-braces:

They're on!
Today I had my braces fitted. I have ceramic (clear) ones along the top 6 teeth and the rest are silver. As I have fillings and a crown in my back molars, Donna was unable to get bands around my teeth (even after wearing separators for the past two days) so she had to put an extra bracket on each of my back molars for the thermal activated wire to clip into.
My class of 5 year olds chose my coloured ligatures (bands that hold the wire in place) along my bottom teeth - they wanted 'rainbow colours', so thats what Kelly gave me! My own two daughters (aged 4 1/2 and 5 1/2) are pretty happy with my rainbow teeth too!
I got the wire clipped in about 2.30pm - nothing really hurt at all, so far I'm quite happy, although did have to have some icecream before to take some of the pressure off the thermally activated archwire! (Any excuse for ice cream the better really!) Hopefully they won't hurt too much overnight or tomorrow.
I'm back in a couple of weeks to the orthodontist to see that I'm cleaning my braces right and then again a couple of weeks after that to get new bands on! (Will have to decide which colour!)

My before shot!
So here is my 'before' shot - the night before my braces were put on! Nice and crooked, but hopefully within the next couple of years I will have a new smile thanks to Donna Batchelor and her team!
